Music is a vital part of our liturgies at Saint Thomas the Apostle and St. John Vianney Churches. The goal of music during the Mass is to support the prayer of all who have gathered together. We warmly invite you to join in raising your voice in sung prayer.
The choir's purpose is to serve the liturgical prayer in both churches. The major ensemble of the parish community provides musical leadership and sings music of many styles from the great Catholic tradition; chant, contemporary, and major choral works, aiming to support the spirit of prayer at our liturgies. In addition to our choral responsibilities, the choir sings at our very popular Christmas Concert & Pageant in December, celebrating its eighteenth season.
Membership is open to all age 16 and up. You do not need to be able to read music to join. Rehearsals are Thursdays, 7:30-9:30 p.m. The choir sings at the 11:00 a.m. Mass from September to June, Christmas, Holy Week, and all major liturgical feasts during the year.
We are always seeking new members in all voice types; soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone/bass. If you are interested, try it out" with no commitment by dropping in on a Thursday evening rehearsal.
If you would like more information, please contact our Music Ministers, Dr. Eric M. Stroud for St. Thomas the Apostle, and Neil Perrotta for St. John Vianney.
The STA Children's Choir is beginning it's twentieth year and has developed into one of the finest children's choirs in the northern New Jersey area. All are strongly encouraged to join from our sister parishes of St. Thomas the Apostle and St. John Vianney.
The children's role is to serve as leaders of song to support the prayer and spiritual life of the parish community. The boys and girls have fun learning to be part of the music ministry team as they grow and learn about music and God. The choral repertoire includes music of all styles; traditional, jazz, spiritual, folk, and contemporary.
We sing twice a month from September to May at the 9:00 a.m. Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle. and rehearse on Thursdays from 4:45-5:30 p.m. in the church. In addition, we also sing at our acclaimed Christmas Concert & Pageant and other special occasions and liturgies. Joining is easy, simply come to rehearsal on Thursdays and receive the information sheet with the yearly schedule. The Children's Choir is open to members from 1st grade to 8th grade, with high school helpers providing important mentorship.
Parent involvement sets the example for choir members to know singing in thankfulness and praise to our Lord is a priority in life, and our Children's Choir Parents are integral to the success of this ministry! Some parents help at weekly rehearsals as the children grow and others chaperone on Sunday mornings during our 9:00 a.m. Mass.
